Therapeutic Yoga Poses

Kitty Yoga

Most likely the most therapeutic yoga pose known to all inspiring yoginis. This pose is about relaxation. As you lie down and get comfortable, remember to relax your jaw, muscles around your eyes and throat. Allow your body to get heavy. With each exhale, scan your body and release any tension you may feel. Shavasana brings everything together: Body, mind and spirit allowing you to absorb the benefits of the yoga poses you just practiced.

Too Old and Tired to Work Out

OUCH! I Can Barely Move...

Too Old?  Too Tired?  Or Both?   It Hurts Too Much When I exercise.  After I exercise, I am so tired and in pain I cannot work out again so I stop altogether.  I’m too old to work out.  I’m too tired to work out.  I hear this often from people who either overdo it [...]

Yoga Promotes Peace of Mind in Cancer Patients

Virtually every cancer patient must go through chemotherapy. Chemotherapy, however, has negative side effects during and after treatment. To cope with these side effects, many doctors recommend certain holistic treatments and methods. Many patients take natural herbs, and others go through group therapy sessions. How to Deal with and Heal Back Pain

Child's Pose with the Child

My chiropractor is awesome. He rolls me into the adjustment. Never pushes too hard and never does anything that would make the inflammation worse. I get a wonderful massage while I’m there just for the places that are causing me pain. I am treated well and their concern for my well-being is present every time I visit. Definitely not a “wham bam thank you ma’am” kind of place where you hurdled in like cattle on speed and out in 5 minutes. And I’ll say the same thing about massage therapists. Sometimes you’ve got to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince or princess. I have one in my area I would refer anyone to. He is intuitive and seems to know exactly what I need every time I visit. All I have to do is tell them where it hurts. He gets it. If you want to have an exceptional massage you have got to be willing to communicate. Don’t be shy. They are there to help you, but if they don’t know what is bothering you, their job then becomes a guessing game. Who wants that? “Oh, surprise me. Let’s see if you get it right.” No! Tell them. Give them as much information as you can. Let them do their thing and give yourself a delicious treat.

Niyamas – Tapping Into the Best of Ourselves

Like the Yamas, the Niyamas build on each other. If you are practicing one and not the other, life does not seem to flow as easily. Sure, you can get by, but not with much peace or balance. As we begin to practice and become aware, even with life’s challenges, we are able to discern and act in a way that serves us, our highest purpose and the good of the whole.

The Yamas | 5 Ancient Practices to Improve Your Life

Yamas are attitudes or behaviors that have to do with how we relate to the outside world.

Tapas – What’s Your Zeal?

So, I am not content in my pose. I am not relaxing into it because I am too busy thinking about how long I have been holding the pose. Anybody else ever have that experience? This mild irritability causes me to become aware of my thoughts. After I get over still being in the pose, I begin to notice how it feels.

Brahmacarya = Freedom

When we bring Brahmacarya into our lives, it does not mean living a life without passion. It’s quite the opposite. When we practice moderation, we have balance. When we have balance, the gateway opens for passion.

Asteya – Thou Shalt Not Steal

Life is so hard when we’re resistant. And we’re resistant because we are holding on to ideas, thoughts and things so tightly that our ability to enjoy life slowly diminishes. What’s the saying? “Let go and let God”
